Hillsong Chapel is the latest project from Hillsong Church from Australia. They’ve taken what is basically Hillsong & Hillsong United’s greatest hits and broken them down to a more intimate, organic sound.
There aren’t any huge surprises here. You’ve known these songs for years and probably sing one every week or two in church, but the quieter acoustic arrangements are a nice change of pace. It’s a great album to play while you spend some time with God. I love getting excited about the Lord, but sometimes, it’s good to slow the pace down, meditate, and think. This album gives you a chance to really focus on what’s being said in the lyrics.
All your favorites are here: Mighty To Save, Hosanna, From The Inside Out, Came to My Rescue. Like the Hillsong Live series, this was also recorded live and occasionally you’ll hear polite applause after a song. It’s in no way distracting like some live albums.
If you’re looking for some new songs, you’re not going to find them here. They’ve simply unplugged their anthems. Every song is repackaged from one of their albums released in the last five years.
The physical copy is also packaged with a DVD, which I haven’t seen, so I can’t comment on it. You can also pick up a deluxe edition on iTunes that includes videos of 4 of the songs.
