When today’s bands play a sound that is dated and “old-school,” it can receive massive negative feedback. While rap rock, grunge, or nu metal still seems a bit awkward in the scene today, a fond memory for many in the Christian music scene is spirit-filled hardcore. With every kind of –core band out there, when classic hardcore is played good it excels, even if it’s in the form of an EP. Messengers have already proven themselves this year with their impressive Texas-hardcore “Anthems EP” and now Venia is giving us another helping of some classic head banging sweetness.

Highlights include the inspiring “Calloused” and “The Call,” which features an impressive inclusion of Jason Berggren formerly from Strongarm. This EP is the closest we’ll get to the old-school hardcore of days gone by. Short, sweet, and to the point, Venia teases new and old hardcore fans with a collection that begs for more.

Cool review. Thanks for the props! And I guess I’m the ‘old’, but I like the new school too.
