Flashback Friday – Fanmail
February 4, 2011Posted by on
After the release of Plankeye’s successful 1997 album The One and Only, lead vocalist and songwriter Scott Silletta decided to leave the band, in a move that seemed rather shocking and abrupt. Fast forward a year and a half, and Mr. Silletta returned with his new project Fanmail. With their debut, 1999’s The Latest Craze, Fanmail picked up right where Silletta-era Plankeye left off. The album was full of energetic power-pop that bordered on pop-punk exuberance at times (“Let Down”) and an almost acoustic pop-rock vibe at others (“Shirley Maclaine”). The bands next release, 2000’s Fanmail 2000, brought more of the same poppy, borderline punk rock. After the release of Fanmail 2000 the band disappeared as quickly and abruptly as they formed, leaving fans wanting more of their short-lived, yet timeless sound.
