John 8:12 says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Using this verse as inspiration for this introductory mixtape, Applejaxx is reading himself for his next full-length album “The Outsider.”

Too short for a mixtape and perfect for an EP,“Glow In The Dark” kicks off with a satisfying title track which has a lacking chorus but the verses by one of my new favorites (Eddie Nigma) make this song a great intro. “Go Hard” is a musical highlight and even Trini’s flow is honestly miles above her previous material. “Narrow Lane” temporarily slows down the pace before “Outsiders” reminds me that while Mr. Coldstone helps the song, NEEDTOBREATHE’s similarly named song is what I’d rather be listening to. The album highlight is the last song, “Beaming,” that has nice verses especially from another favorite, Je’kob from The Washington Projects, and has plenty of Star Wars references to keep this fanboy happy.

As introductory projects go, they could either create more hype for an upcoming project or wish they could clean up their act before more music is ever released. Thankfully “Glow In The Dark” does the former, so I’m pleasantly waiting for what Applejaxx has up his sleeve when “The Outsiders” hits the shelves. As an added incentive, this mixtape is available free here.
