Posted by on The first album coming out of the newly renovated and ramped Mono Vs. Stereo Records, a sub-label of Gotee Records comes from Russelville, Arkansas natives Deas Vail. This not well enough known band has come out with a couple of EP’s and one full length before their former label closed down shop. Birds & Cages is their sophomore full length album and was recorded about a year ago, but is just now getting into the public’s hands for the first time on Oct 27th. To get to know a little bit more, check out these great resources.

Most of the time, I’m a guy who likes his music to be in my face, something that gets me pumped to get at whatever it is I need to get done, doing some Dwight Schrute style rocker punches in my car seat at full throttle. Every once in a while, however, I need something to just relax to and I’ll listen to something that displays a bit more of a lounging around on a cold winter Saturday morning feel to it. Deas Vail’s brand of indie rock does just the trick by playing the part of an upbeat Copeland type band (or a bit like Future of Forestry, Cold Hand Luke or My Epic at times as well) that combines a skilled and silky smooth falsetto with a deep and complex instrumentation filled with keys and strings that allow one to just sink into the music.
Be warned, however, that this magically delicious journey is by no means a quick and poppy affair. I would be hard pressed to say that there is a standout track or two, but rather that Birds & Cages is a scenic musical journey that takes patience and a peaceful ear for it to fully soak in and develop to full maturity. If you can sit still for a little bit, you just might find your next favorite band. I know that I feel a bit behind in not having scooped up all of their previous work, but I’m sure they’ll forgive us all if we gather the bandwagon for a pleasant time of musical prowess.
